We are ambassadors for Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:20
Read 2 Corinthians 5:18–21.
Those who serve as ambassadors of the United States often find their feet taking them from one corner of the world to the next—and at a moment’s notice. In particular, “special envoys” of our nation may be called upon to fly from one continent to another at the drop of a hat.
When war threatens, special envoys grab a suitcase and hail a taxi as they race to the airport. When earthquakes rumble or volcanoes explode, special envoys answer the phone in the middle of the night and, bleary eyed, shuffle off to Asia or the Caribbean or South America.
Likewise, as servants of the living Christ, we stand ready to represent him at the drop of a hat. The words of 2 Corinthians 5:18–21 serve as a “commission” of sorts, the marching orders our Lord gives to us as his ambassadors. We represent heaven on earth! We speak the very words of Christ to those we serve!
Where will your feet take you this week? Those of us who serve God’s people in churches and Christian schools, whether on the staff or as volunteers, find our feet constantly on the move.
From meeting to meeting, from the hospital emergency department to the fifth-grade classroom, from the youth lock-in to the senior adult’s potluck to the couples’ club barbeque—our feet are seldom still.
Wherever your feet take you in service, remember who you are: an envoy of heaven, deployed to earth, to care in love for those around you. Remember what you carry: a message of hope and peace from heaven’s High King. Then go, in the power of the Spirit and the joy of your Savior!
