Editor’s note: Today’s devotion comes from one of CTA’s latest books, This Is Love: Acts of the Savior. The 40 devotions in this book are designed to take readers through the Easter story in a new way—by walking through the Book of Acts. Readers will see Jesus’ sacrifice through fresh eyes and consider how they can love and serve the one who has loved and served us first—and best!
As the disciples followed Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, many of them hoped the political revolution had begun. Rome’s rule would be overthrown. What a full-throated high!
Then came the Lord’s arrest. And that dreadful sentence—death by crucifixion. What a gut-wrenching low!
In the 40 days after Jesus’ resurrection, more and more believers were able to testify, “We have seen the Lord” (John 20:25 ESV). Little by little, doubt and distress gave way to flickers of hope and finally to waves of amazement and joy.
But then, Jesus ascended into heaven. The Lord no longer walked visibly with his friends. Once more, their world turned upside down.
What a roller coaster!
The details differ, of course, but still today Christians know what life’s rollercoasters are like. Just remember: whether you are up or down today, our Savior will bring you safely through, safely home. You can count on it!
