A Devotional Prayer for Your Week

Editor’s note: This week’s free devotion includes a Bible reading and prayer/meditation written by faithful pastor Walter E. Schuette who has since gone to be with the Lord. We pray that his enduring witness will encourage you for your own life of  grateful witness!

Read Psalm 5:1–12, focusing especially on verse 11.

Almighty God, we call out to you morning, noon, and night. We know that whenever we need you, you always listen, and you always hear us. You surround us with favor as with a shield, and we rejoice because our trust in you is never misplaced.

You hate evil, yet you loved us—and love us still. You sent your Son, Jesus, to take away our sin through his death on the cross. By faith in him, we have peace with you, and evil no longer controls our lives. Keep us on the narrow path, and light our way. Strengthen our souls. Let us give your enemies no cause to speak ill of you. Let us never bring dishonor to your name by anything we say or do. Let doubt or fear never take root in us. Instead, let our lives shine with the joy and peace that comes from knowing Jesus as our Savior.

You defend and protect us from every evil of both soul and body. Confident in this, make us jubilant in our praise and thankful for the blessing of our salvation.

We ask these things, trusting in the mercy of our Savior Jesus. Amen.
