Bind Us Together, Lord

Bind us together, Lord, bind us together With cords that cannot be broken.

Bind us together, Lord, Bind us together, Lord, Bind us together with love.

This past summer I traveled to Belize, Central America, with three other early childhood professionals. For five days, we presented on various early childhood topics to early childhood educators from across this small nation. My heart is filled with many amazing memories of our time together with so many incredible people. The most profound memory is experiencing the power and presence of God in the lives of his people throughout the world, specifically in Belize.

We arrived on Thursday, and before the conference started on Monday, we stopped by to see a wonderful friend we had come to know during three previous visits. As our time with her and her family drew to a close, she prayed a mighty prayer over us in anticipation of the tasks that lay ahead of us. For three hours on Sunday, we worshiped with other Belizeans in a small church filled with God’s love.

Then our work began. We started each day of the week-long conference with devotions, all with the blessing of the Belizean Ministry of Education with whom we were working. For the first three days, we led each day’s devotion, but on Thursday and Friday, the participants blessed  us as they led. On Friday, our group of 40 participants formed a large circle and sang together, “Bind Us Together.”

So much more happened during this trip! But I describe these few things because in this blog I want to share some important lessons I learned from my Belizean Christians friends:

  • From our dear friend who prayed so mightily as we began our service . . . When we pray, we can take our requests boldly to our Father God believing our God can do all things.
  • From the dear church family we joined on Sunday morning . . . We can make Sunday morning God’s time. When we do, when we dedicate ourselves to praising God, studying his Word and enjoying fellowship with other believers, when we rest for a while in his love, we find strength and focus for the week to come.
  • From the dedicated early childhood teachers we met . . .When we sing praises to God, when we use instruments of praise to celebrate our awesome God, he binds us together in love and bold joy.

Blessings to you as you worship, sing joyfully, and pray mightily in praise of our awesome God!

Editor’s note: Andrea distributed copies of the devotional book, Woman of God: Growing in Grace, as she traveled in Belize. She says, “After being enriched while reading Woman of God as my personal devotion, I wanted to share it with others. By giving this book to fellow believers in Belize, I know they received meaningful devotions to encourage them in their faith walk.”

It’s available for your own personal use or use in women’s ministry (KJV and NIV).
