Editor’s note: This prayer was written many decades ago by a faithful pastor, Walter E. Schuette, who has since gone to be with the Lord. As he basks in the Savior’s presence, Pastor Schuette realizes more fully the truth of the words he wrote while he lived here on earth. His witness speaks powerfully to many of us at CTA and we hope it speaks to you, too, as you celebrate God’s gifts today! Pastor Schuette based his prayer on Ephesians 3:13-21.
Dear God, you have gifted human beings with knowledge in many useful areas. Medicine, technology, agriculture, astronomy, music, art—all this and much more comes to us from your hand of blessing.
Still, much that passes for knowledge, for wisdom, among your sinful human creatures amounts to just so much foolishness in heaven’s eyes.
Teach us to know the difference between true wisdom and false teaching. Teach us to see our world and our place in it as you see it. Most of all teach us to treasure the love of Jesus that surpasses all knowledge. Give us the spiritual discernment that probes the depths of his love, love that sent him to die to redeem us. Then help us love other people as he has loved us.
In your loving–kindness, hear our prayer. Amen.
