A Prayer for More Urgency. . . A free devotion for this week’s meetings

Editor’s note: This week’s free devotion includes a prayer/meditation written by faithful pastor Walter E. Schuette who has since gone to be with the Lord. We pray that his witness will encourage you for your own life of witness! It is based on 1 Chronicles 22:6–16.

Lord God, you never sleep. While Jesus lived here on earth, he served you by serving your people with total diligence. He taught us to work while it is day and warned us that the night is approaching, the night in which no one can work.

We need to be busy today, laboring in your kingdom. Yet sometimes we neglect our duties, preferring instead to enjoy our own comfort, luxury, and little self-indulgences. We forget how short life is and how much remains undone.

Impress upon us a sense of urgency in sharing the Gospel message. Strengthen our hearts and guard us against procrastination and neglect. Inspire in us the zeal to labor eagerly for your glory and the welfare of others.

Do this, for the sake of your Son, Jesus. Amen.
