Safety and Peace—Praying for Our Military

Editor’s note: As citizens of the United States look forward to Independence Day (July 4) next week, you might consider praying for all who serve in our military, helping to keep us safe. This prayer has been adapted from one that first appeared in CTA’s devotion book for military personnel and loved ones back home, The Ultimate Shield. It is no longer available, but many other patriotic products are.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

Psalm 91:1 NIV®

You, O Lord, are the Most High God! Nothing escapes your notice. Nothing perplexes you. Nothing takes you by surprise. You rule the universe. You command the angel armies of heaven. You live forever, exalted in majesty.

You are Most High God in heaven, while we live here on earth—often perplexed; often surprised; often feeling helpless to influence the events swirling around us and helpless to control the people who literally hold our lives in their hands.

When others seem to have the upper hand, when dangers seem to careen out of control, how good to know that the Most High is our Father, that the Ruler of heaven and earth is our Savior, our Brother—Jesus!

God Most High, shelter those who serve in our military from all harm. Preserve them from faithless fear and from foolish bravado. Give your peace to those here at home who await their return. Help all of us at home and all those on duty grow in trusting you during this time. We ask especially that . . .
